"WHATEVER YOUR LIFE’S WORK IS, DO IT WELL."

8th Grade Overview

Our middle school program culminates as the eighth graders are tasked with defining their own artistic style, while identifying influences in the art world. They embody the artistic process by envisioning, developing, proposing and executing a self-directed exploration.

Artistic Style Challenge

Students connect to the contemporary art world by first identifying their own unique working style and then seeking an artist with similar interests. This combination leads to a self-directed exploration of materials, subjects, and techniques.

Google Doodle re-mix

To better understand the concept of artistic style, students design their own GOOGLE DOODLES, celebrating the working styles of six contemporary visual artists:

  • Yayoi Kusama

  • Anish Kapoor

  • Robert Mangold

  • Damián Ortega

  • Chakaia Booker

  • Louise Despont

Independent Study

To finish their tenure as middle school artists, students are challenged to develop an independent vision and implement their artistic plans. This project empowers students to leave their mark on the school community.
